FLEX-N-GATE

GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS

The Flex-N-Gate project was a design-build, MEP project in Grand Prairie, Texas. Flex-N-Gate is an international manufacturer of car and truck bumpers, which requires the use of several unique and intricate machines. This job provided production space and increased production for the General Motors plant in Arlington, Texas.

This job included the installation of Transfair air-piping. Transair is a unique, aluminum air pipe system with its own set of tools and quick-connect fittings. The light-weight pipe and easy to use fittings resulted in significant savings on the install-labor expenses, while still providing a clean and efficient compressed air system.

Brandt’s Electrical Commissioning team was closely involved in this project. This project has been unique in many ways with the mechanical and electrical teams working together on a very compressed schedule as the project start date was delayed from July to December.

The electrical manpower peaked with around 35 men, while the mechanical crew stayed relatively small throughout, peaking with 15 people. The electrical and mechanical teams worked together and solve problems as a cohesive team. In one instance, Brandt plumbers and pipefitters installed brackets and hangers to help the electricians run the 500ft. of 3000A bus duct. The mindset of “one Brandt” had an impact on our safety record. There were no recordable injuries on this project, a large part of that is the accountability the team had with one another. Overall, the team worked together safely and exceptionally well to overcome any obstacles they faced on this fast-paced job.
