ABIA Baggage Handling System Upgrades
(AUSTIN, TEXAS) – Over the years, Brandt has established itself as a trusted construction partner in the aviation industry, delivering exceptional services to major Texas airports. Our Austin
team recently completed work on the baggage conveyor expansion project at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA).
BRANDT’S SCOPE OF WORK
Our scope of work for this project included relocating and expanding mechanical, plumbing, and control systems throughout the concourse and apron areas to support the installation of a new conveyor system. Additionally, we renovated a mechanical room and constructed new baggage service offices, a baggage checkpoint terminal, an Austin police department office, and a vestibule area.
WORKING IN AN ACTIVE AIRPORT
To ensure seamless collaboration, we implemented full building information modeling (BIM) coordination with all trades and significant field input. This collaboration allowed us to leverage the expertise of our employees to overcome challenges and ensure successful project implementation onsite.
The project team utilized extensive scheduling and agility to work safely and efficiently in secured and unsecured occupied areas of the airport. We also implemented nighttime shifts to minimize flight disruptions and daily operations. This approach allowed construction activities to progress without interfering with regular airport functions or venue operations.
COMPLETED UPGRADES AT ABIA
Completed in January 2024, the upgraded system significantly enhances airport operations and improves the passenger experience. Throughout the project, our team dedicated over 24,000 work hours to ensure its success.
