Lyndon B. Johnson Air Handling Unit Refurbishment Phase Two

First Place in Specialty Contractor – Mechanical 1

LBJ-AHU-Refurbishment-Phase-2

Over the past few years, Brandt performed prime mechanical and plumbing renovations at the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, a member of the Harris Health System. This 215 licensed-bed acute care hospital, located in Houston, offers a full range of medical services and was the first level three trauma center designated in Texas. Brandt was awarded this project after successfully completing phase one, where eight air handling units were refurbished.

About the Project

We performed the mechanical refurbishment of nine existing dual duct air handling units (AHUs) on the fifth floor, penthouse mechanical room of this 430,000-square-foot hospital. Our scope of work involved demolishing the existing units down to their studs. From there, we installed new insulation, wall panels, floor panels, ceiling panels, fans, coils, etc. Essentially, our team built new AHUs in place. Additionally, all unit controls were upgraded to digital controls from the existing pneumatic system, giving the hospital more control over its AHU functionality. The upgraded HVAC systems provided by these refurbishments enhanced LBJ Hospital’s ability to serve its over 80,000 emergency patients annually.
