Southern Methodist University: Owen Arts Center

Dallas, TX

Gene and Jerry Jones Grand Atrium and Plaza

One of the many clients we are proud to serve is Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas. To provide the utmost quality education, and encourage creative expression and innovative technology, the SMU Meadows School of the Arts needed to renovate its Owen Arts Center.

Brandt was contracted by CORE Construction to perform the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing renovation of the facility. Transforming this 60-year-old building enables the college to equip a new generation of influential artists, creatives, and innovators to enter the workforce.

The project scope included a 60,000 SF renovation and expansion of the Owen Arts Building, Greer Garson Theater, connector section between the two buildings, and the newly expanded Gene and Jerry Jones Grand Atrium. With a campus in full swing, our team had to perform installations while the building was operational and hosting classes.

Completed in 2022, this facility consists of classrooms, studios, dark rooms, collaboration spaces, and administrative and support rooms. Our work helps provide the university with more expanded opportunities for students, professors, and administrative staff to learn, create, and collaborate.
