Medical City Plano – Bed Tower Expansion

LOCATION: PLANO, TX

Brandt is working on a new four-story patient tower and central utility plant at HCA Medical City Plano. We were invited by the owner to the initial project kick off meeting that included the entire design team, contractor, and trade partners. During this meeting, the owner tasked the project team with the following goals: 60% pre-fab, 10% reduction in budget, and 10% reduction in schedule. This process resulted in the entire team collaborating to come up with a solution and claiming ownership of the process and results.

Our pre-construction team worked closely with WSP’s design team. This unique partnership enabled us to meet the owner’s objectives, leverage WSP’s expertise, and develop a shared project model.

With only 50% complete construction drawing, Brandt and WSP delivered a complete coordinated model, which cut our shop drawing time in more than half.

Brandt prefabricated integrated rack corridor systems for the project. Here, all systems are contained in a common framework that are built and tested off-site. The framework can be designed to incorporate ductwork, water piping, medical gas piping, electrical conduit, cable trays, and even fire protection. Most impressively, our team installed approximately 50,000 lbs of ductwork and 10,000 feet of plumbing and hydronic piping in the prefabricated racks during the concurrent construction of the building. According to the customer, this process has shortened the project duration by two months.
