Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Expansion
The Henry B. Gonzalez (HBG) Convention Center in San Antonio is 46 years old. HBG is a national competitor for major conventions and, as such, must stay up-to-date in order to provide the flexible and efficient service expected by the highest echelons of conference-goers nationwide. The construction expansion, slated for completion in 2016, will provide that experience while offering visitors a taste of San Antonio’s unique character.
HBG Convention Center Project Scope
The HBG project includes a major expansion of the current convention center, encompassing 776,000 square feet. The multi-purpose ballroom and exhibit space, dedicated exhibit halls, a grand ballroom encompassing 55,000 square feet, and multiple support spaces (meeting rooms, administrative areas, etc.) combine to give the HBG expansion a 21st-century feel without compromising San Antonio’s historic spirit.
The original West Building of the existing convention center will be completely demolished as part of an additional 49,000 square feet of expansion construction. With architect Populous and multiple contractors, Brandt is supplying all mechanical and plumbing services at a mechanical/plumbing volume of $40,480,000.
The Brandt Construction Way
All aspects of the HBG construction project are taking place while the building is operational and open for business on a regular schedule. Brandt’s history and long-standing experience as a provider of in-process services will be a key component in the successful execution of the HBG project plan. Our ability to handle quality control and oversight, alongside flexible scheduling and on-point delivery, will help HBG please conference-goers in the next year, while preparing the space to keep visitors happy for another 46 years or more.
